You are invited to visit Carrick Hill for A French Weekend on 13-14 January 2018. In collaboration with Adelaide Festival Centre's Adelaide French Festival, the stunning Carrick Hill estate presents two days of free and low-cost French inspired activity. Nestled in the foothills and only 15 minutes from the city, this beautiful historic house and garden provides the perfect place to spend a gorgeous summers day. Admire rare French cars, play a family game of petanque, follow a themed language trail through the grounds, listen to a guest speaker tell stories of living in the City of Light, join a guided tour through the house, book a ticket to a late afternoon baroque concert or simply sit under the oak trees with a cafe au lait and pastry... Nous vous souhaitons la bienvenue!

Inside the house, Ursula Hayward's love of France will be on display. Visit the house over the duration of the weekend to see Carrick Hill's collection of French pieces, including paintings, decorative arts, books and clothing. 

The Guided Tours will focus on the French items within the collection and provide some insight into why the Hayward's collected the works.


Concours d'elegance

Stables Lawns, Carrick Hill

The stable lawns will be home to a display of French motor vehicles. Members of Citroen Societe SA, Club Citroen of SA, Club Automobile Francais, Sporting Car Club of South Australia, Vintage Sports Car Club of South Australia and Renault Car Club will bring along the finest examples of French automotive manufacturing.

Carrick Hill is pleased to have members of the South Australian Petanque League providing demonstrations. Come along and see how to play petanque and then try it for yourself.

10.30am to 12.30pm - Demonstrations
12.30pm to 4pm - Petanque piste open to the public and petanque sets will be available for loan ($20 refundable cash deposit payable on the day).

Stroll through the garden and discover more about Carrick Hill and French culture! We've teamed up with the Alliance Francaise d'Adelaide for a fun and challenging scavenger hunt. So, get ready to collect all the clues and you'll have a chance to win a bottle of French champagne! You don't need to speak the language to participate. Collect trail guide from house reception.

Carrick Hill celebrates France's indelible contribution to artistic tradition at A French Weekend.

Please join award-winning artist and teacher Alan Ramachandran for a unique watercolour class in the spectacular grounds of Carrick Hill. 

The class is open to all aspiring artists from beginners to the more experienced. Take inspiration from the French collection in the house to create your own masterpiece. Participants to bring along their own materials or materials can be provided for $30.

Jo Peoples is an actress, musician (Double bass) and teacher (Speech & Drama) with, with Colin Ballantyne, established the Performing Arts Collection in 1979. This collection, which started with a few boxes of programs, is not house at the Adelaide Festival Centre and contains costumes, photographs, set designs and models, puppets, private collections and much more. For 35 years she was the Curator and exhibition co-ordinator, retiring from this position at the end of 2014.

In 2008 Jo took a year's leave without pay and lived in Paris, an experience that she recommends everyone should try! In this great talk, she gives us a taste of daily life in the City of Light.

the food business at Carrick Hill will be open for A French Weekend for dinign and French wines by the glass and bottle. 

Chef John Gabel will bring his classical training and French heritage to the fore with a French-inspired dining menu for the weekend. John's ancestral home still runs as a Champagne house for the Foureur brand and when his great, great Grandfather came to Adelaide in 1874 he introduced methode champenoise to the Australian makers of sparking wine.

For something really special for A French Weekend, the food business will have on hand a bottle of 1993 Dom Perignon Oenotheque from their private collection, available by the glass (POA).
