Lots of romance and joy in the works of Australian artists such as pair of large canvases by Arthur Streeton featuring Venice and the Blue Mountains or floral still lifes by Nora Heysen, Adrian Feint and Septimus Power. Other Australian landscapes are by Horace Trennery, Hans Heysen, Russell Drysdale and Blamire Young. Portraits subjects include works by Ivor Hele, Brian Dunlop and William Dobell whose famous painting of Joshua Smith was owned by the Haywards. It was sadly severely damaged by a fire at the house in 1958. It had made legal and art history when it was subject to a court case in which the artist had to defend himself and the work denounced as a charactiture not a portrait.
