This category contains items and works of art that are frequently closely linked and in some instances inseparable. Within this category are groupings of works and individual items that are of specific interest to the State of South Australia, have the potential to be (or have been) requested for loan by public institutions based in Adelaide and regional South Australia and/or other house museums, and can add meaningfully to State research and scholarship. Items may be useful to illustrate and interpret the history of the State and/or Carrick Hill and may also be quirky in their nature and/or have strong links to the personal lives of Ursula and Edward Hayward.

It comprises a major heritage building, being the previous home of Sir Edward and Lady Ursula Hayward; internationally significant art collections; original subsidiary buildings such as stables; and approximately 40 hectares of land which includes approximately 26 hectares of native bushland.
