Carrick Hill is pleased to host Adelaide Central School of Arts and Fiona Roberts for a repeat pattern design workshop as part of our program for Morris and Co | An Adelaide Obsession.
This introductory workshop offers a hands-on exploration of repeat pattern design, inspired by the iconic work of William Morris. Participants will learn the fundamentals of creating hand-drawn patterns using watercolour. The surrounding gardens at Carrick Hill will serve as an optional source of inspiration for developing motifs into a repeatable tile design. Designed for those with some drawing experience, this workshop provides a creative and structured approach to pattern-making without delving into advanced techniques.
All materials supplied.
Fiona Roberts is an Australian contemporary artist whose immersive installations explore psychological and physical safety through symbolism, superstition, and belief systems. Her work examines dualities such as fear and comfort, often addressing the fragility of the human condition. Incorporating ceramics, repeatable textile patterns, digital imaging, and found objects, her practice evokes themes of psychological and physical tension.
Born in Darwin and based in Adelaide, Roberts holds a Bachelor of Visual Art (Honours) from Adelaide Central School of Art and a Master of Teaching from the University of South Australia. In addition to her art practice, she is a Visual Art educator and the owner of a small fashion brand featuring her repeat pattern designs.
She has exhibited in Adelaide, Cairns, Los Angeles, London, and Brussels, with works held in private and public collections. Roberts has received multiple grants and awards, including the BankSA Best Visual Art and Design Award, and her work has been featured in numerous publications such as Dark Inspirations and, more recently, Art Collector magazine.
